새마을문고 대전광역시대덕구분회 김정화 회장이 새마을운동 활성화와 독서문화 확산, 지역공동체 통합에 기여한 공로로 대통령상을 수상했다.

김 회장은 지난 2017년 1월 새마을문고 대전시대덕구 법1동분회 지도자로 활동을 시작한 이후 동회장과 대덕구분회 회장을 역임하며 지역 독서운동과 주민 소통의 장을 넓혀왔다. 

그는 독서생활화 캠페인과 국민독서경진대회, 숲속의 문고 운영 등을 주도하며 주민들의 독서참여를 적극 이끌어 냈다. 

8년간 진행된 독서생활화 캠페인에는 300여 명이 참여했고, 대통령기 국민독서경진대회 홍보를 통해 2000여 명의 참여를 유도하며 독서문화를 생활 속으로 확산시키는 데 큰 역할을 했다.

또한 간호조무사로 활동하고 있는 김 회장은 어버이날 경로잔치, 사랑의 김장나눔, 물빛축제 봉사활동 등 다양한 나눔 실천으로 지역의 화합과 이웃사랑을 이끌었다. 

특히 탄소중립 실천 활동에도 적극 참여하며, 3년간 15회에 걸쳐 ‘탄소중립 인형극’을 제작·공연해 어린이들에게 쓰레기 재활용의 중요성을 알리고 환경보호 의식을 확산시켰다.

이 밖에도 1단체 1공원 가꾸기, 불법쓰레기 정비, 학교폭력예방 캠페인 등 지역을 쾌적하고 안전하게 만드는 활동을 꾸준히 이어왔다. 

여름철 계족산 ‘숲속의 문고’ 운영을 통해 등산객과 주민들에게 독서와 휴식이 공존하는 공간을 제공하고, 회원들과 함께 시화 작품전을 열어 문고의 문화적 품격을 높였다.

김정화 회장은 “독서는 삶을 풍요롭게 하고 지역을 밝히는 힘”이라며 “이번 수상을 계기로 더 많은 시민이 독서를 통해 성장하고, 함께 살아가는 따뜻한 공동체를 만들어가길 바란다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
