맹수석 충남대 법학전문대학원 명예교수가 2일 대전시의회 기자실에서 기자간담회를 열고, 오는 6일 대전컨벤션센터에서 출판기념회를 갖는 자리에서 대전시교육감 출마를 공식화 한다는 입장을 밝혔다.

맹 명예교수는 “미래 교육 현장에서 길을 찾다”라는 저서를 소개하며, 급변하는 사회 환경 속에서 대전 교육이 나아가야 할 방향과 해결책을 담았다고 밝혔다. 조교 시절부터 30여 년간 대학 교육과 연구, 현장 행정 경험을 쌓아온 그는 교육 정책 전문가로서 여러 위원회와 자문 역할을 수행한 경험을 바탕으로 교육감 선거에 나섰다.

맹 교수는 "교육 현안은 다양한 교육 주체 간 조화로운 소통과 협력이 필수"라며, “교육은 지휘자에 따라 다른 오케스트라와 같다. 훌륭한 리더십과 비전이 필요하다”고 강조했다. 이어 대학 교수 출신으로서 유초중등 현장 경험 부재에 대한 지적에는, “교육감은 행정가로서 다양한 의견을 정책에 반영하고 세금이 학생교육에 제대로 쓰이도록 책임지는 역할에 중점을 둬야 한다”고 답했다.

특히 안전과 급식, 갈등 사안 등 복잡한 교육 현장의 문제 조정과 중재 능력을 강조하며, 초·중·고 특강 경험과 교직 이수, 중등 정교사 자격을 보유한 점도 내세웠다. 교육 현장과 긴밀히 소통하며 안전과 학력, 교육 격차 해소 등 포용적 교육 정책을 차분하게 준비하겠다는 뜻도 밝혔다.

맹수석 명예교수는 “세종시민과 대전시민의 아이들이 안전하고 행복하게 성장하도록 교육 공동체의 신뢰와 협력을 회복하는 데 앞장설 것”이라고 말했다.
