충남대학교가 서울대학교와 KAIST와 손잡고 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 AI 융합형 제약바이오 인재를 양성하는 ‘글로컬랩 컨소시엄’을 공식 출범시켰다.

충남대 의약품개발연구소는 11일 약학대학 삼남홀에서 ‘글로컬랩 컨소시엄 의약품개발연구소 개소식’을 열고, 향후 9년 동안 총 216억 원의 국비가 투입되는 교육부 ‘2025 글로컬랩(Glocal Lab) 사업’의 본격 추진을 알렸다.

이번 개소식에는 김정겸 충남대 총장, 나민균 의약품개발연구소장, 대전광역시와 유성구 관계자, 지역 제약바이오 기업 및 대전테크노파크 관계자 등이 참석해 연구소의 미래 역할과 공동 추진 방향을 공유했다.

컨소시엄은 AI 기반 수리과학과 의약·바이오 연구를 융합한 혁신적 연구 생태계를 조성해 박사후 연구원과 전임급 연구자를 포함한 300명의 전문 인재를 육성할 예정이다. 이를 통해 글로벌 초격차 연구 기반을 확장하고, 지역 전략산업인 바이오헬스 분야의 성장을 견인하는 것을 목표로 한다.

충남대 의약품개발연구소는 이번 사업의 지역 거점 역할을 맡아 산학연 협력망을 확충하고 연구 인프라를 강화할 계획이다. 서울대 천연물과학연구소는 국제 공동연구와 글로벌 협력체계 구축을, KAIST는 수리과학과 약학의 융합연구를 통해 연구 시너지를 극대화한다.

세 기관은 ‘지능형 데이터 융합 시스템천연물 연구플랫폼’을 공동으로 구축해 신약개발과 바이오헬스 기술의 혁신을 선도하고, AI·데이터·천연물 기반의 첨단 예측 플랫폼을 개발해 제약바이오산업의 경쟁력 강화를 도모할 예정이다.

김정겸 충남대 총장은 “이번 글로컬랩 사업은 학문 간 경계를 허물고 지역 혁신과 세계 수준의 연구 성과를 동시에 달성하려는 의미 있는 도전”이라며 “충남대를 중심으로 한 이 컨소시엄이 글로벌 연구 허브로 자리매김할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
