충남도가 10일 UAE를 비롯한 4개국 첨단 외국기업과 1억 7100만 달러 규모의 투자유치 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 성과로 민선8기 충남도 외자유치 누적 실적은 41억 4700만 달러(40건)에 이르러, 당초 설정했던 50억 달러 목표 달성에 푸른 신호등이 켜졌다.​

이번 투자는 세계 경기 불확실성과 보호무역주의 강화 등 글로벌 환경 악화에도 불구하고 이뤄졌다는 점에서 의미가 크다. 

투자기업 중에서는 미국계 한국메티슨특수가스가 아산에 8100만 달러를 들여 반도체 특수가스 신공장을 설립하고, UAE 하이티와 유아이헬리콥터가 예산에 5000만 달러를 투자해 200kg급 고중량 무인 화물드론 생산시설을 신축한다는 계획도 포함됐다. 

이외에도 스위스 ABB의 로봇 사업부와 한일 합작 동신포리마가 각각 천안과 홍성에 산업용 로봇센터와 친환경 바닥재 생산라인을 추가로 구축할 예정이다.​

김태흠 도지사는 이번 협약식에서 “충남을 미래산업 중심지로 만들고, 외자유치 50억 달러 목표를 반드시 달성하겠다”며, 각 투자기업 관계자들에게 “충남을 든든한 동반자로 삼아달라”는 메시지도 전했다.

South Chungcheong Province Signs $171 Million Investment Agreement with Four High-Tech Foreign Companies

South Chungcheong Province announced on the 10th that it signed a $171 million investment agreement with four high-tech foreign companies from the UAE.

With this achievement, South Chungcheong Province's cumulative foreign investment during the 8th elected government reached $4.147 billion (40 deals), putting it on track to achieve its original goal of $5 billion.

This investment is significant in that it was made despite a deteriorating global environment, including global economic uncertainty and rising protectionism.

Investors include US-based Korea Mathison Specialty Gas, which will invest $81 million to build a new semiconductor specialty gas plant in Asan, and UAE-based Haiti and UI Helicopter, which will invest $50 million in a new facility to produce 200kg-class heavy-duty unmanned cargo drones.

In addition, ABB's robotics division in Switzerland and Dongshin Polyma, a joint venture between Korea and Japan, plan to establish additional industrial robot centers and eco-friendly flooring production lines in Cheonan and Hongseong, respectively.

At the signing ceremony, Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "We will make South Chungcheong Province a hub for future industries and achieve our goal of attracting $5 billion in foreign investment." He also urged investment companies to "make South Chungcheong Province a strong partner."
