대전 지역의 오랜 숙원사업인 ‘호남고속도로지선 확장공사’가 정부 예비타당성조사를 통과하며 본격 추진된다.

대전시는 31일 기획재정부 제10차 재정사업평가위원회 심의 결과, 호남고속도로지선 확장사업이 최종 예타를 통과했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 사업은 총사업비 3,522억 원 규모로, 서대전분기점에서 회덕분기점에 이르는 18.6㎞ 구간을 기존 4차로에서 6차로로 확장하는 것이다. 사업기간은 약 8년이 소요될 것으로 예상된다.

이 구간은 충청권과 호남권을 잇는 핵심 연결축이자 상습 정체 구간으로, 대전시와 지역 정치권은 그동안 병목 구간 해소의 필요성을 꾸준히 제기하며 한국도로공사, 기획재정부와 지속 협의해 왔다.

예타 통과로 사업이 본격화되면 한국도로공사는 2026년 상반기부터 타당성 조사와 설계 절차에 착수할 계획이다. 대전시는 정체 및 안전 취약 구간을 집중 분석해 출퇴근 교통과 물류 흐름 개선이 함께 이뤄질 수 있도록 설계단계부터 적극 지원할 방침이다.

확장 사업이 완료되면 세종·대전권의 출퇴근 정체 해소는 물론, 호남과 충청을 오가는 물류 이동속도 향상으로 광역경제권의 경쟁력이 높아질 것으로 기대된다. 또한 충청권 메가시티 구상과 연계한 핵심 교통 인프라로서의 역할도 주목된다.

이장우 대전시장은 “이번 예타 통과로 대전의 교통 숙원이 구체적 실현 단계에 들어섰다”며 “시민이 체감할 수 있는 정체 해소 효과를 조기에 달성할 수 있도록 한국도로공사와 긴밀히 협의해 추진 속도를 높이겠다”고 밝혔다.
