가세로 태안군수가 최근 업무상 횡령 혐의로 검찰 수사를 받게 된 사실이 알려지자, 국민의힘 충남도당이 27일 성명을 내고 즉각적인 사퇴를 촉구했다.

충남도당은 이날 발표한 성명에서 “승진 청탁 대가 금품 수수 의혹에 이어 또다시 횡령 의혹까지 불거지면서 태안군민들에게 큰 상처와 불명예를 안겼다”며 “군민을 대표하는 군수직에 있는 인물이 반복적으로 비리에 연루되는 것은 군민에 대한 배신 행위”라고 비판했다.

이어 “태안군은 국민권익위원회의 종합청렴도 조사에서 2년 연속 최하위를 기록했다”며 “청렴 서약을 받아야 할 군수가 오히려 비리 의혹의 당사자가 되고 있다”고 지적했다.

충남도당은 특히 이번 사건이 일부 공무원들의 신고를 통해 수사가 진행되는 점을 강조하며 “개인 비리 의혹에 이어 공무원들을 동원한 비리까지 터져 나온 것은 군민들에게 치명적인 상처와 피해로 돌아가고 있다”고 꼬집었다.

성명에서 충남도당은 “2007년 유류 피해 당시 군민과 국민의 연대로 쌓아 올린 태안군의 명예가 심각하게 훼손됐다”며 “군민들이 더 이상 전국적인 망신을 당하지 않도록 검찰은 철저하게 수사해야 한다”고 밝혔다.

마지막으로 충남도당은 “가세로 군수는 더 이상 군민을 실망시켜서는 안 된다”며 “즉각 군수직을 내려놓는 것이 최소한의 도리이자 군민을 위한 길”이라고 입장을 정리했다.
