국민의힘 최고위원 경선에 나선 김소연 변호사가 31일 오후 대전시의회 기자실에서 가진 기자간담회에서 “국민의힘이 안일한 침묵에 머물러 있는 지금이야말로 전면적인 변화와 창조적 재건이 절실히 요구되는 시기”라며 자신이 당 혁신의 적임자임을 자처하고 나섰다.

김 변호사는 현 집권여당의 무기력과 무관심을 질타하며 “현재 국민의힘은 이슈 창출 능력을 잃고 정체성 혼란에 빠진 상태”라고 진단했다. 

그는 “공허한 해법이 아닌 신선하고 창의적인 대응이 필요하며, 이를 실천할 수 있는 당내 인물이 바로 자신”이라며 강한 자신감을 드러냈다.

장동혁 의원에 대해서는 “정치를 늦게 시작했지만 당 내부의 구조적 문제를 정확히 꿰뚫고 있다”고 호평했다. 동시에 “국민과 당원을 감동시킬 수 있는 소통능력과 대중적 매력을 갖춘 정치인으로, 충청권 중심의 정치 원심력 역할을 해주길 바란다”고 덧붙였다.

반면, 다른 당대표 후보군에 대해서는 보다 비판적인 시각을 보였다. 

김 변호사는 “안철수 의원은 결단의 시기가 필요하고, 조경태 의원은 장기간 활동에도 당내외 네트워크가 약하다”며 “한동훈 전 장관에 기대는 역선택 흐름이 커질 것”이라고 전망했다. 

주진우 의원에 대해서는 의정활동을 긍정적으로 평가하면서도 “리더십과 대중성 면에서는 다소 아쉽다”고 평가했다.

자신의 강점에 대해 김 변호사는 “원외 인사이지만 수년간 국민의힘의 주요 현안과 사건을 물밑에서 뒷받침해왔다”며, “‘명태균 사건’이나 ‘리박스쿨 논란’ 등 굵직한 현안에서 소극적이었던 원내의 빈틈을 변호사로서 메웠다”고 강조했다. 그는 “당내 의원들과 활발하게 소통하고 있으며, 정치력에서도 밀리지 않는다”고 덧붙였다.

계엄령 논란에 대해서는 “비상계엄은 헌법 절차에 따른 정당한 대통령의 호소였다”며, “이를 내란 프레임으로 몰아가는 것은 심각한 오도”라고 일침을 날렸다. 그는 “현재의 침묵이야말로 국민의힘이 겪는 심각한 위기”라고 꼬집었다.

당 개혁 방향을 묻는 질문에는 “좌파 시민단체들이 국가예산을 동원해 조직화하는 것에 맞서, 보수진영도 법률·제도적 대응이 필요하다”며 “쓸데없는 특검이나 프레임 전쟁에 매몰되어선 안된다”고 힘주어 말했다.

‘청년 최고위원 도전’에 대한 입장도 분명히 했다. “청년은 누구나 거치는 시기일 뿐, 특별히 대우할 범주가 아니다”라며 “청년 이슈에 매몰되지 않겠다. 지금은 모든 세대가 힘든 시기”라고 선을 그었다.

최근 대전시당 당직자의 성 착취 의혹에 대해서도 “확인된 바는 없으나, 당에서 발생한 일인 만큼 분명한 책임이 필요하다”며 시당 지도부의 책임론을 강조했다.

김소연 변호사는 “여러 번 고초를 겪고 컷오프 당했지만, 원칙을 지키며 당의 미래를 고민해왔다”며 “이번에야말로 국민의힘 혁신에 기여하고 당과 국가를 위해 실질적 역할을 하고 싶다”고 출마의 뜻을 밝혔다.
