더불어민주당 세종특별자치시당이 22일, 최근 폭우로 실종자 사망 사고가 발생한 가운데, 최민호 세종시장이 유럽 출장을 강행한 것에 대해 강한 유감을 표하며 사퇴에 버금가는 책임 있는 행동을 촉구했다.

민주당 세종시당은 이날 발표한 논평을 통해 “세종시에서 실종자가 사망하는 심각한 재난이 발생했음에도, 최민호 시장은 현장을 등지고 해외 출장길에 올랐다”며 “이는 시장으로서의 책임은 물론 자격 자체를 의심케 하는 심각한 사안”이라고 강도 높게 비판했다.

최 시장은 2027년 유니버시아드 대회기 인수를 위한 유럽 출장을 이유로 출국 일정을 강행했다. 

이에 대해 민주당은 “시민의 생명을 지키지 못한 상황에서 대회기 인수는 설득력 있는 명분이 될 수 없다”며 “세종시민은 국제대회보다 실종된 가족의 무사 귀환을, 그리고 빗속을 헤매는 구조의 손길을 간절히 기다렸다”고 지적했다.

특히 세종시당은 해당 실종 사망 사고가 단순한 자연재해가 아닌, 예보와 경고가 있었음에도 적절히 대응하지 못한 ‘인재(人災)’의 특성을 갖고 있다는 점에서 최 시장의 책임은 더욱 무겁다고 강조했다.
