충남교육청이 서천군, 서천교육지원청과 함께 10일 서천교육지원청에서 ‘서천형 농촌유학 운영교 확대’를 위한 3자간 업무협약을 체결했다. 

이번 협약식에는 김지철 충남교육감, 김기웅 서천군수, 김흥집 서천교육장을 비롯한 관계자들이 참석해, 농촌유학 활성화와 지속가능한 지역 교육 생태계 조성을 위한 협력체계를 구축하기로 뜻을 모았다.

이번 협약에 따라 세 기관은 서천형 농촌유학 운영교 확대와 활성화를 위한 협력, 인적·물적 지원 방안 마련, 그리고 지속가능한 농촌유학 프로그램의 공동 기획 및 운영에 힘을 합치기로 했다. 

특히, 농촌유학 참여 가족을 위한 보금자리 주택 조성, 유학생 주거비 및 유학 프로그램 운영비 지원, 안정적인 교육지원을 위한 관리체계 구축 등 실질적 지원책도 포함됐다.

충남교육청은 학생들의 전인적 성장과 작은학교의 내실 있는 운영을 위해 가족체류형 농촌유학사업을 추진하고 있다. 2025년에는 공주 마곡초, 서천 마산초, 홍성 서부초, 태안 이원초 등 4개 학교에서 21가구 36명의 학생이 참여할 예정이다.

김지철 교육감은 “서천군을 시작으로 농촌유학사업이 교육청과 지자체의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 인구소멸 위기 극복의 마중물이 되길 기대한다”며, “지속가능한 발전을 위해 제도적·정책적·재정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다. 

김기웅 서천군수 역시 “농촌유학이 지역에 활력을 불어넣고, 공동체 회복과 인구 유입의 전환점이 되길 바란다”고 강조했다.

서천군은 이미 마산면에 9호 규모의 농촌보금자리 주택을 조성해 도시민의 안정적 정착을 지원하고 있으며, 이를 통해 지역학교와 마을공동체에 활력을 불어넣는 거점 역할을 하고 있다.

On the 10th, the Chungnam Office of Education, Seocheon-gun, and Seocheon Office of Education signed a three-party business agreement for ‘Expansion of Seocheon-type Rural Study Abroad Schools’ at the Seocheon Office of Education.

In 2025, 21 families and 36 students are expected to participate in 4 schools: Gongju Magok Elementary School, Seocheon Masan Elementary School, Hongseong Seobu Elementary School, and Taean Iwon Elementary School.

Superintendent of Education Kim Ji-cheol said, “Starting with Seocheon-gun, I hope that the rural study abroad program will serve as a stepping stone to overcoming the population extinction crisis through close cooperation between the Office of Education and local governments,” and added, “We will not spare institutional, policy, and financial support for sustainable development.”

Seocheon-gun Mayor Kim Ki-woong also emphasized, “I hope that rural study abroad will invigorate the region and become a turning point for community recovery and population inflow.”

Seocheon-gun has already built nine rural housing units in Masan-myeon to support the stable settlement of urban residents, and through this, it is serving as a base to invigorate local schools and village communities.
