유부도 도선·외연도·선촌 여객선 신조 추진… 

지역 관광·정주 여건 개선 기대

 

충청남도가 섬 지역 주민들의 교통 불편 해소와 관광 활성화를 위한 해상교통 인프라 확충에 박차를 가하고 있다.

 

도는 15일, 유부도 도선 건조를 포함해 총 3척의 선박 건조 사업이 계획대로 진행 중이며, 일부 노선에는 운항중단 방지를 위한 지원책도 병행하고 있다고 밝혔다.

 

현재 건조가 추진 중인 선박은 서천 유부도 부정기선 ,대천-외연도 항로 국고여객선 ,오천-선촌 항로 국고여객선 등이다. 특히, 대천-효자도-선촌 항로에는 연간 10억 원의 예산을 투입해 운항을 유지하고 있다.

 

가장 눈에 띄는 사업은 서천 유부도에 투입될 부정기 도선이다. 유부도는 갯벌 생태의 가치를 인정받아 세계자연유산에 등재된 지역임에도 불구하고, 여객선은 물론 정기 도선조차 없어 주민과 방문객 모두 큰 불편을 겪어왔다.

 

도는 총사업비 15억 원(국비 9억, 도비 3억, 군비 3억)을 투입해 2026년 6월 시범 운항을 목표로 도선을 건조를 추진중에 있다. 지난달 실시설계를 마쳤으며, 오는 9월 착공에 돌입할 예정이다.

 

충남도 관계자는 “도선이 본격 운항에 들어가면 의료·교육 등 기초 생활 접근성이 개선될 뿐 아니라 생태관광 활성화 효과도 기대된다”고 밝혔다.

 

국가보조항로인 대천-외연도와 오천-선촌 항로에는 노후 선박을 대체할 신형 여객선이 투입된다. 이 사업은 대산지방해양수산청이 주관하고 있으며, 국고보조 방식으로 추진된다.

보령 대천-효자도-선촌 항로는 해저터널 개통 이후 이용객 감소로 운항 중단 위기에 직면한 바 있다. 

 

이에 충남도는 보령시와 2023년 6억원, 2024년부터는 연 10억원씩 3년간 총 26억원의 운항지원금을 투입해 항로 운항을 지원하고 있다.

 

260톤급 대천-외연도 항로 여객선은 올해 안에 건조를 마치고 운항을 시작할 예정이며, 오천-선촌 항로 선박은 150톤급 규모로 지난달 설계를 마치고 2025년 말 취항을 목표로 하고 있다.

 

한편, 해저터널 개통 이후 이용객이 급감했던 대천-효자도-선촌 항로는 운항 중단 위기에 놓인 바 있다.
