이준석 개혁신당 국회의원이 대통령 선거 출마를 공식화한 가운데, 세종시 대통령 집무실 이전과 국회의사당 통합 추진을 핵심 공약으로 내세우며 주목을 받고 있다.

이 의원은 19일 인스타를 통해 밝힌 입장문에서 “정치는 여론조사의 뒤를 따르는 팔로워의 자세가 아니라, 명확한 철학으로 국민을 이끄는 리더의 자세가 필요하다”며 “세종시에 대통령 집무실과 국회의사당을 통합 구축해 행정수도로서의 기능을 실질화하겠다”고 밝혔다.

그는 이재명 후보를 겨냥해 “여론조사 결과에 따라 입장을 바꾸는 태도는 바람직한 항해사의 모습이 아니다”라며, “저는 정치적 유불리를 따지지 않고 쾌도난마의 자세로 세종시 집무실 이전을 추진하겠다”고 강조했다.

이 의원은 실제 여론조사업체 뉴스토마토가 최근 진행한 조사에 따르면, ‘차기 정부의 대통령 집무실 위치’에 대한 질문에서 응답자의 47.3%가 기존 청와대를, 23.7%가 세종시 정부청사를, 20.8%가 현 용산 대통령실을 선택했다는 조사 결과를 밝혔다.(자세한 내용은 중앙선거여론조사심의위 참고) 

이 의원은 해당 여론조사에 기대어 입장을 바꾸는 행태를 문제 삼으며, “이재명 후보는 정치를 ‘깜빡이와 실제 방향이 다른 난폭운전’처럼 하고 있다”고 비판했다.

또한 그는 “서울의 송현동 부지에는 소규모 서울 집무실을 마련하고, 관저는 세종시에 두어 대통령의 주민등록 주소를 세종시로 이전하겠다”고 말했다. 이는 상징적 조치에 그치지 않고, 세종시를 실질적인 행정수도로 만드는 강력한 기반이 될 것이라고 주장했다.

이 의원은 건축가 유현준 교수의 말을 인용해 “공간이 사람과 그 행동양식을 설계한다”며, 세종의 새로운 집무공간이 브라질의 수도 브라질리아처럼 입법·사법·행정이 공존하는 삼권통합 공간으로 기능하길 바란다고 밝혔다.
