이장우 대전시장이 세계지방정부연합(UCLG) 집행부 회의 참석을 계기로 본격적인 글로벌 리더십 행보에 나섰다. 

이 시장은 2일(현지시각), 스페인 세비야에서 열린 회의에 참가해 차기 UCLG 회장으로서의 역할을 시작하며, 대전시의 국제적 위상 강화에 나섰다.

UCLG는 전 세계 140개국 24만여 개 지방자치단체가 소속된 국제 네트워크로, 유엔 회의에 공식적으로 참여할 수 있는 유일한 지방정부 조직이다. 이 시장은 오는 10월부터 UCLG의 회장직을 수행할 예정으로, 이번 회의는 차기 회장으로서 본격적인 국제 무대 데뷔를 알리는 자리였다.

이 시장은 회의 중 ‘지방재정과 다자주의’ 세션을 직접 주재하며, 지방정부의 재정 자율성과 국제사회 내 실질적 역할 확대의 중요성을 강조했다.

사절단은 세비야 상공회의소를 방문해 대전과 세비야 간 경제교류 활성화를 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했고, 오는 4일에는 주한 스페인 대사관을 방문해 KOTRA가 주최하는 현지 투자 설명회에도 참석할 예정이다.

대전시는 앞으로도 글로벌 도시들과의 전략적 협력을 이어가며, 국제 사회 속 지방정부 간 지속가능한 발전 모델 구축에 앞장설 계획이다. 

이번 세비야 회의는 대전이 글로벌 도시로 도약하고, 이장우 시장이 국제무대에서 지방정부 리더로서 입지를 다지는 중요한 이정표가 됐다.
