김태흠 충남도지사가 대전충남특별시를 기반으로 한 560만 충청 메가시티 구축에 대한 강력한 의지를 재확인했다. 

김 지사는 20일 대전 호텔 오노마에서 열린 ‘2025 충청미래포럼’에 참석하여, 지방 소멸 위기를 극복하고 세계 무대에서의 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해서는 현재의 17개 시도 행정 체제를 탈피하고 국가 개조에 준하는 행정통합이 절실하다고 밝혔다.

이날 포럼은 ‘충청이 대한민국의 미래다’라는 주제로 진행되었으며, 이장우 대전시장, 김영환 충북도지사, 최민호 세종시장 등 200여 명이 참석했다. 

김 지사는 환영사에서 “교통과 통신, 인터넷의 발달로 인해 주민의 생활과 경제권이 변화하고 있으며, 이는 현재의 행정 체제에 대한 변혁을 요구하고 있다”고 강조했다.

그는 “지방 소멸을 극복하고 지방정부가 세계 무대에서 경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서는 전국을 대여섯 개 권역으로 묶는 행정통합이 반드시 필요하다”고 덧붙였다. 

또한, 대전·충남 행정통합이 광역 행정구역 개편의 초석이 될 것이라고 언급하며, 대전충남특별시가 인구 360만, 경제력 190조 원으로 유럽의 신흥 산업국가들과 맞먹는 수준임을 강조했다.

김 지사는 “충청권의 균형 발전은 궁극적으로 충청권 메가시티 구축의 기반이 될 것이며, 이를 통해 수도권 대학과 대기업의 이전, 인재 양성 및 일자리 창출이 가속화될 것”이라고 기대감을 나타냈다. 

그는 초광역 교통망 연결을 통해 충청권이 대한민국 경제와 교통의 중심지로 거듭날 것이라고 강조하며, 중앙정부에 요구해 이양받을 국세와 절감되는 예산을 지역 발전에 재투자할 계획을 밝혔다.

마지막으로, 김 지사는 “지방자치제를 진정한 자치경찰과 특별지방행정기관의 지방 이양으로 탈바꿈시키겠다”며, 충청인으로서의 자긍심을 고취시키고 후손들에게 글로벌 시민으로서의 기회를 제공할 것이라고 다짐했다.

South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum emphasizes, “Administrative integration comparable to national reform is necessary”

South Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Tae-heum reaffirmed his strong will to build a Chungcheong Mega City of 5.6 million people based on Daejeon and South Chungcheong Special City.

Governor Kim attended the ‘2025 Chungcheong Future Forum’ held at Hotel Onoma in Daejeon on the 20th and stated that in order to overcome the crisis of local extinction and secure competitiveness on the global stage, it is essential to break away from the current 17-city administrative system and integrate the administration comparable to national reform.

The forum was held under the theme of ‘Chungcheong is the future of the Republic of Korea’ and was attended by approximately 200 people, including Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan, and Sejong City Mayor Choi Min-ho.

Governor Kim emphasized in his welcoming speech, “Due to the development of transportation, communications, and the Internet, residents’ lives and economic spheres are changing, and this is demanding a transformation of the current administrative system.”

He added, “In order to overcome the extinction of local governments and make local governments competitive on the global stage, administrative integration that groups the entire country into five or six regions is absolutely necessary.”

He also mentioned that the administrative integration of Daejeon and Chungnam will be the cornerstone of the reorganization of metropolitan administrative districts, and emphasized that the Daejeon-Chungnam Special City has a population of 3.6 million and an economic power of 190 trillion won, which is comparable to the newly industrialized countries of Europe.

Governor Kim expressed his expectations, saying, “The balanced development of the Chungcheong region will ultimately become the foundation for the establishment of a Chungcheong megacity, and through this, the relocation of universities and large corporations in the metropolitan area, talent development, and job creation will be accelerated.”

He emphasized that the Chungcheong region will be reborn as the center of the Korean economy and transportation by connecting the ultra-wide transportation network, and announced a plan to reinvest the national taxes transferred from the central government and the budget savings in regional development.

Finally, Governor Kim pledged to “transform the local autonomy system into a true autonomous police and local transfer of special local administrative agencies,” and to instill pride in Chungcheong people and provide future generations with opportunities to become global citizens.

Governor Kim added, “If we work together with the mindset of overcoming difficulties and pioneering a new path, the day when Chungcheong leaps forward as a special center of the Republic of Korea will not be far off.”
