충청남도가 14일, 전라남도 영암군의 한우농장에서 구제역이 발생함에 따라 도내 소와 염소 농가를 대상으로 긴급 일제 접종을 실시한다고 발표했다.

이번 긴급 접종은 구제역의 확산 가능성을 조기에 차단하기 위해 원래 4월 한 달간 진행할 예정이었던 일정을 2주 앞당겨, 14일부터 이달 말일까지 추진된다.

접종 대상은 도내 1만 4000호의 소·염소 농가에서 사육 중인 55만 두에 이른다. 50두 미만의 소를 사육하는 농가와 300두 미만의 염소를 사육하는 농가는 공수의가 직접 접종을 지원하며, 그 외의 전업 규모 농가는 자체적으로 접종을 실시할 예정이다.

충남도는 이번 일제 접종이 제대로 이루어졌는지를 평가하기 위해 접종 4주 후에 지역별로 구제역 백신 항체 양성률을 검사할 계획이다. 

검사 결과 항체 양성률이 법정 기준치인 소 80% 이상, 염소 60% 이상에 미달할 경우 과태료 부과 및 추가 접종, 1개월 후 재검사 등 특별 관리 방침을 시행할 예정이다.

이정삼 충남도 농축산국장은 “구제역은 철저한 백신 접종을 통해 예방할 수 있는 질병인 만큼, 사육 중인 모든 개체에 대해 일제 접종을 빠짐없이 철저히 해 줄 것”을 강조했다.

한편, 충남도는 지난 2016년 3월 이후 9년 동안 구제역이 발생하지 않은 상태를 유지하고 있다.
