3월 14일, 대전 유성구가 유성시장 내 장터놀이터에서 유성장터 만세운동 및 의병제 기념행사를 성황리에 개최했다. 

이번 행사는 1919년 유성시장에서 일어난 독립 만세운동의 의미를 되새기고, 당시의 순국선열들을 기리기 위해 마련되었다.

행사에는 약 300명의 주민들이 참여하여 장터 만세운동 거리 행진을 재현했으며, 3·1독립선언서 낭독, 만세삼창, 기념 공연 등 다양한 프로그램이 진행되었다. 

특히, 어린이들을 위한 태극기 체험 행사와 성악 및 관현악 공연이 함께 열려 풍성한 볼거리를 제공했다.

이재웅 유성문화원장은 “유성장터 만세운동 및 의병제는 우리 지역의 자랑스러운 독립운동 정신을 보여주는 소중한 유산”이라며, “앞으로도 이를 널리 알리고 계승하기 위해 노력하겠다”고 강조했다.

정용래 구청장은 “유성장터에서 벌어진 독립 만세운동은 유성의 자랑스러운 역사”라며, “선열들의 충절과 나라 사랑 정신을 이어가고 이들을 존중하는 문화를 확산하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

유성장터 만세운동은 1919년 3월 16일 지족리에서 이상수·이권수 형제가 대형 태극기를 게양하고 유성시장으로 나가 300여 명의 군중과 함께 시작되었다. 

이후 3월 31일과 4월 1일에는 주민들이 헌병 주재소를 습격하는 사건이 발생했으며, 일본 헌병의 발포로 1명이 사망하고 많은 이들이 체포되는 등 대전 지역 만세운동의 시발점이 되었다. 

이번 기념행사는 지역 주민들이 독립운동의 역사와 정신을 되새기고, 후세에 전할 수 있는 계기가 되었다.

On March 14, Daejeon Yuseong-gu successfully held the Yuseong Market Independence Movement and Righteous Army Memorial Ceremony at the Yuseong Market Playground.

This event was organized to recall the meaning of the independence movement that took place at Yuseong Market in 1919 and to honor the patriotic ancestors who died at the time.

Approximately 300 residents participated in the event, reenacting the street march of the Yuseong Market Independence Movement, and various programs such as reading the March 1st Independence Declaration, cheering three times, and commemorative performances were held.

In particular, a Taegeukgi experience event for children and vocal and orchestral performances were held together, providing a rich entertainment.

Lee Jae-woong, director of Yuseong Cultural Center, emphasized, “The Yuseong Market Independence Movement and Righteous Army are valuable legacies that show the proud spirit of the independence movement in our region,” and “We will continue to make efforts to widely publicize and inherit it.”

Mayor Jeong Yong-rae said, “The independence movement that took place at Yuseong Market is a proud history of Yuseong,” and added, “We will do our best to continue the spirit of loyalty and love for the country of our ancestors and spread a culture that respects them.”

The independence movement at Yuseong Market began on March 16, 1919, when brothers Lee Sang-soo and Lee Kwon-soo raised a large Taegeukgi in Jijok-ri and went to Yuseong Market with a crowd of about 300 people.

After that, on March 31 and April 1, residents attacked the military police station, and one person died and many were arrested due to gunfire from the Japanese military police, which became the starting point of the independence movement in the Daejeon area.

This commemorative event provided an opportunity for local residents to reflect on the history and spirit of the independence movement and pass it on to future generations.
