대전 서구가 주민참여예산을 통해 관저동 1767번지(더젠병원 인근)에 AI 기반의 투명 페트병 분리배출기 2대를 새롭게 설치했다고 14일 발표했다.

이 분리배출기는 2021년부터 운영되고 있으며, 투명 페트병을 이물질과 라벨을 제거한 후 기기에 투입하면 개당 10원의 포인트를 지급하는 무인 회수 장치이다. 

사용자가 2000점 이상을 적립하면 현금으로 환급받을 수 있다. 

현재 서구의 23개 동에는 총 65대의 무인 회수기가 설치되어 있으며, 운영 초기부터 지금까지 주민들에게 지급된 보상금은 215,477,930원에 달한다.

서구는 투명 페트병 외에도 종이 팩, 폐건전지 등 다양한 재활용 자원을 수집하여 보상하는 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 주민들이 종이 팩과 폐건전지를 동 행정복지센터에 가져오면 친환경 화장지와 새 건전지로 교환해주는 사업이 진행 중이다. 

또한, 올 상반기에는 서구청사에 폐전지 수거 보상 기기를 설치하여 사용이 끝난 건전지나 배터리를 투입하면 새 건전지로 보상하는 시범 운영을 계획하고 있다.

서철모 구청장은 "재활용품의 수거 보상 사업을 확대하여 주민들이 적극적으로 분리배출에 참여하도록 유도하고, 자원순환에 대한 인식을 더욱 높이겠다"며 "앞으로도 주민과 함께 지속 가능한 자원순환 정책을 추진할 것"이라고 강조했다.
