최근 금호중 역사 교사가 윤석열 대통령 석방에 대한 비판적 견해를 밝힌 것을 두고 세종시의회 국민의힘 소속 의원들이 징계와 감사를 요구하고 나서자 조국혁신당 세종시당이 "교권 침해이고 권력을 이용한 부당한 탄압"이라는 입장을 밝혔다.

세종시당은 13일 보도자료를 내고 "최민호 시장은 대통령의 석방 환영 발언에 대한 문제 제기는 없으면서도 중학교 교사 발언에 대해 징계를 논하는 것은 형평성 잃은 명백한 이중잣대"라고 비판했다.

시당은  "교사가 학생들에게 현 시국과 관련한 의견을 제시하고 토론하는 것은 교육의 일환이고 비판적 사고를 기르는 중요한 과정"이라며 "국민의힘 세종시의원들이 정치적 입장에 동조하지 않았다는 이유로 교사를 압박하는 것은 교육의 자율성을 해치는 행위"라고 지적했다.

이어 "학교는 정권의 입맛에 맞는 발언만 허용하는 곳이 아니다"라면서 "민주주의 사회에서는 다양한 견해가 공존해야 하고 학생들에게 균형 잡힌 시각을 제공할 수 있도록 보장해야 한다"고 말했다.

특히 "해당 역사 교사는 특정 정당을 지지하거나 선거 운동을 한 것이 아니라, 역사적·정치적 사건에 대한 견해를 교육 현장에서 피력한 것"이라며 "이러한 발언을 정치적 중립성 위반이라고 몰아가는 것은 교권 탄압에 불과하다"라고 강조했다.

시당은 "국민의힘 세종시의원들이 해당 교사에 대한 부당한 압박과 정치적 개입을 즉각 중단하라"며 "세종시교육청은 징계 요구에 동조하지 말고, 교사의 교육권을 보장하라"고 촉구했다.

그러면서 "우리는 세종시민들과 함께 교권 탄압에 맞서 싸울 것이며 교육 현장이 정치적 압력으로부터 자유로운 공간이 될 수 있도록 끝까지 지켜볼 것"이라고 경고했다.
