이완섭 서산시장이 ‘도약하는 서산, 살맛나는 서산’이라는 목표 아래 주요 현안 해결을 위한 발품행정에 나섰다. 

13일, 이 시장은 국회를 방문해 주호영 국회부의장과 성일종 국방위원장을 만나 지역 경제 활성화 및 문화 향유 여건 개선을 위한 다양한 사업을 건의했다.

이 시장은 주호영 부의장과의 면담에서 대산 임해지역을 석유화학 첨단소재 특화 신규 국가산업단지로 지정해줄 것을 요청했다. 

그는 석유화학산업의 침체 상황을 강조하며, 산업 전환과 재도약을 위한 신규 국가산업단지의 필요성을 역설했다. 

대산석유화학단지는 국내 3대 석유화학단지로, 지역 경제는 물론 국가 경제에도 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

성일종 국방위원장과의 회의에서는 충청내륙철도, 내포태안철도, 대산항 인입철도, 중부권동서횡단철도 등의 사업을 설명하며 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획에 반영해줄 것을 건의했다. 

이 시장은 또한, 국도 29호선 대산 소재지 우회도로와 국도 32호선 대체 우회도로의 예비타당성조사 통과를 위해 힘을 모아줄 것을 요청했다.

이외에도 보원사지 방문자센터 건립과 보원사지 오층석탑 및 개심사 목조아미타여래좌상의 국보 승격 추진 등 현안 사업에 대한 지속적인 관심을 촉구했다. 

해미국제성지의 세계명소화 사업을 위한 문화교류센터 건립 국비 반영도 요청하며, 사업 동력 확보를 위한 설명도 진행했다.

특히, 충남도립박물관 유치와 관련해서는 서산시가 충청남도의 역사적·문화적 가치를 담아낼 최적의 장소임을 강조했다. 

이 시장은 “우리 시의 주요 현안 해결을 위한 다양한 사업의 차질 없는 추진에 앞으로도 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
