과학기술정보통신부(이하 ‘과기정통부’)는 2월 13일 대전 IBS 과학문화센터에서 2025년 핵융합 산업 상생한마당을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 행사에는 과기정통부 황판식 연구개발정책실장, 대전광역시 이장우 시장, 한국핵융합연구소 원장, 미국 General Atomics社 관계자 등 200여 명의 산업체 관계자가 참석하였다.

올해로 9회를 맞이한 상생한마당은 공공과 민간의 협력 및 정부혁신을 통해 핵융합에너지 실현을 가속화하고 핵융합 산업 생태계를 활성화하기 위한 행사로, 핵융합 및 플라즈마 기술과 기업의 역량을 교류하고 글로벌 기업과의 협력을 통해 혁신 성장을 도모하는 것을 목표로 한다.

이번 행사에서는 기업들이 핵융합 기술을 활용한 신사업 기회를 모색하고 국제협력을 통한 기술 혁신 및 글로벌 진출 기회를 확대하기 위한 다양한 프로그램이 마련되었다. 

특히, 핵융합(연)과 대전시, 미국 GA 간의 “국제 협력 파트너십 협약 체결식”이 진행되어 세 기관은 국제공동연구, 기술개발, 투자유치, 인력교류 등에서 적극적인 협력 관계를 공고히 할 계획이다.

또한, GA의 핵융합 실험장치 DⅢ-D 참여 연구진이 현재 진행 중인 핵융합 프로젝트 현황을 소개하고 한국 기업들이 참여할 수 있는 방안을 안내하는 시간도 마련되었다. 

이를 통해 국내 기업의 국제 핵융합 프로젝트 참여를 유도하고 산업 및 기술 경쟁력을 높이는 기회가 제공될 것으로 기대된다.

황판식 연구개발정책실장은 “이번 행사를 통해 핵융합에너지 실현 가속화를 위한 공공과 민간의 협력을 강화하고 우리나라 핵융합 산업의 글로벌 경쟁력을 높이는 기회가 되기를 기대한다.”며, “앞으로도 과기정통부는 핵융합 기업들과의 소통과 협력을 바탕으로 산업 생태계 활성화를 위한 지원을 강화하겠다.”고 강조하였다.

Ministry of Science and ICT to Hold 2025 Nuclear Fusion Industry Symbiosis Festival

The Ministry of Science and ICT (hereinafter referred to as the ‘MSIT’) announced that it held the 2025 Nuclear Fusion Industry Symbiosis Festival at the IBS Science Culture Center in Daejeon on February 13.

Approximately 200 industry officials, including Hwang Pan-sik, Director of the R&D Policy Office of the MSIT, Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City, President of the Korea Fusion Research Institute, and officials from General Atomics in the US, attended the event.

The Symbiosis Festival, now in its 9th year, is an event to accelerate the realization of nuclear fusion energy through public-private cooperation and government innovation and to vitalize the nuclear fusion industry ecosystem. It aims to exchange nuclear fusion and plasma technology and corporate capabilities and promote innovative growth through cooperation with global companies.

This event provided various programs for companies to explore new business opportunities utilizing nuclear fusion technology and expand opportunities for technological innovation and global advancement through international cooperation.

In particular, the “International Cooperation Partnership Agreement Signing Ceremony” between the Korea Fusion Research Institute, Daejeon City, and the US GA was held, and the three organizations plan to solidify their active cooperative relationship in international joint research, technology development, investment attraction, and human resource exchange.

In addition, the research team participating in GA’s nuclear fusion experimental device DⅢ-D introduced the current status of the nuclear fusion project and provided guidance on how Korean companies can participate.

Through this, it is expected that opportunities will be provided to induce domestic companies to participate in international nuclear fusion projects and enhance industrial and technological competitiveness.

Hwang Pan-sik, Director of the Research and Development Policy Office, said, “We hope that this event will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors to accelerate the realization of nuclear fusion energy and enhance the global competitiveness of our country’s nuclear fusion industry.” He emphasized, “In the future, the Ministry of Science and ICT will strengthen support for activating the industrial ecosystem based on communication and cooperation with nuclear fusion companies.”
