10일 오후 발생한 대전 서구 초등학생 김하늘 양(8) 흉기 피습 피의자가 우울증 등 정신건강상 어려움으로 인해 휴·복직을 반복한 2학년 담임 40대 정교사인 것으로 밝혀져 지역사회가 큰 충격에 빠졌다. 

대전서부경찰서 관계자에 따르면 10일 오후 9시경, 용의자로 지목된 늘봄교실 담당 교사가 범행 일체를 자백한 것으로 알려졌다.

흉기로 8세 어린 소녀의 꿈과 희망을 앗아간 해당 교사는 목과 팔 등을 자해하는 등 자살을 시도했으나, 목숨에는 지장이 없는 상태이며 수술을 마치고 정확한 범행 동기와 경위 등에 대한 조사가 이뤄질 예정이라고 경찰 관계자는 전했다.   

피해자인 초등학교 1학년 김 양은 미술학원을 가기 전, 오후 4시 40분경 까지 늘봄교실 수업에 참여했으며, 정해진 시간에 학원에 오지 않은 사실을 파악한 미술학원장의 연락을 받은 부모가 오후 5시 20분경 실종 신고를 했다.

신고를 받고 출동한 경찰과 부모, 학교 관계자들은 교내 2층 시청각실에서 흉기에 찔린 채, 심정지 상태로 누워있던 김 양을 발견하고 관할 소방서 119구급대의 도움을 받아 병원으로 신속히 이송했으나 안타깝게도 소중한 생명을 구하기에는 역부족이었다. 

특히, 피의자는 복직한 후에도 동료 교사에게 갑작스럽게 다가가 폭력을 휘두르거나, 교무실에서 물건을 집어 던지는 등 정서적으로 불안정한 모습을 보여 왔다는 증언이 취재 결과 확인됐다. 

그러나 이 같은 정서·행동상의 위험 요인들이 반복적으로 관찰되었음에도 불구하고 어떠한 이유로 해당 교사가 자기방어에 취약한 저학년들이 많은 늘봄교실을 담당하게 되었는지, 왜 적절한 조치가 이뤄지지 않았는지, 복직 절차상 문제는 없었는지 등 여전히 남는 의문들이 적지 않은 상황이다.

경찰은 피의자인 교사가 퇴원하는 대로 범행 동기와 경위 등을 상세히 조사할 것이라고 밝혔으며 해당 학교는 내일(11일) 학교장 재량으로 긴급 휴업을 결정했다.
