보령시는 지난 4일 보령종합체육관에서 산불전문예방진화대 및 산불감시원 109명이 참석한 가운데 발대식을 개최하며 본격적인 봄철 산불 비상 근무체제에 돌입했다고 5일 밝혔다.

이번 발대식에서는 산불전문예방진화대와 산불감시원에게 위촉장을 수여하고, 결의문 낭독을 통해 산불 예방에 대한 책임감을 고취했다. 또한 산불 감시 및 진화 임무 교육, 순찰 및 진화 요령 교육 등 전문성을 강화하기 위한 체계적인 교육도 진행됐다.

보령시에 따르면 전체 산불의 약 80%가 3~4월 봄철에 집중되며, 이 중 90%는 산림 인접 지역의 농업 부산물 소각이 주요 원인으로 나타났다. 

실제 2023년 4월 청라면에서 발생한 대형 산불로 97㏊의 산림이 소실된 바 있지만, 지난해에는 집중적인 감시와 신속한 초기 대응으로 피해 면적이 1.1㏊로 크게 줄어들었다.

올해는 고기압의 영향으로 맑고 건조한 날씨가 많을 것으로 예상되는 가운데, 봄철 등산객 증가로 인해 산불 발생 위험이 높아질 전망이다. 이에 따라 시는 봄철과 가을철로 나누어 산불방지대책본부를 운영하고, 예방 활동을 한층 강화할 계획이다.
