금산군이 국토교통부가 주관하는 2024년 교통문화지수 평가에서 총점 86.94점을 기록하며 A등급을 받았다. 이는 전국 82개 군 단위 지자체 중 3위에 해당하는 성적으로, 금산군은 교통문화지수 우수 지자체로 선정되는 영예를 안았다.

교통문화지수는 운전행태, 보행행태, 교통안전 등 3개 항목, 18개 지표를 종합적으로 평가해 국민의 교통안전의식과 교통문화 수준, 지자체의 교통안전 행정 노력을 객관적으로 수치화한 결과다.

이번 평가에서 금산군은 횡단보도 정지선 준수, 방향지시등 점등, 신호 준수, 안전띠 착용 등 주요 운전 행태에서 높은 점수를 받아 성숙한 시민의식을 입증했다. 그러나 2023년 대비 교통사고 사망자가 3명 증가해 총 10명에 달하는 점은 개선이 필요한 부분으로 지적됐다.

금산군은 지난해 평가에서도 전국 군 단위 지역 중 2위를 기록하며 우수한 교통문화를 유지해왔다. 올해는 교통사고 예방을 위해 정지선 알리미, 교통신호기, 교통안전시설물 등을 확충하고 표지판 유지관리를 강화하는 한편, 교통안전캠페인을 확대 시행할 계획이다.
