금산군의 대표 특산물인 깻잎이 지난해 역대 최대 연매출을 기록하며 지역 농업의 성장세를 이어가고 있다.

31일 금산군에 따르면 2023년 677억 원이었던 깻잎 매출이 지난해 12.6% 증가한 763억 원으로 집계됐다. 이는 생산량 증가와 가격 상승이 맞물린 결과로 분석된다.

지난해 금산군의 깻잎 생산량은 1만135t으로, 2023년 9197t보다 크게 늘었다. 이는 고품질 재배시설 확충과 계절근로자 지원 확대 등 금산군의 정책적 지원이 노동력 부족 문제를 완화하면서 생산성을 높인 덕분이다.

가격 측면에서도 기후변화로 인한 공급 조절 효과가 반영됐다. 2023년 박스(4kg 기준)당 평균 2만8294원이었던 수취가격은 지난해 2만9004원으로 2.5% 상승하며 농가 소득 증대에 기여했다.

금산군 깻잎은 2011년 지리적 표시제 등록, 2015년 금산추부깻잎특구 지정 등을 통해 전국적인 인지도를 높였으며, 2020년에는 처음으로 연매출 600억 원을 돌파하는 성과를 거둔 바 있다. 이후 꾸준한 성장세를 보이며 지역 경제의 핵심 작물로 자리 잡고 있다.
