충남 서산시에 조성될 단일 규모 전국 최대 스마트팜 단지가 내년 1월 본격 착수에 들어간다. 

서산시는 26일 충남글로벌홀티콤플렉스의 1단계 사업이 기획재정부의 지역활성화 투자펀드 5호 프로젝트에 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

지역활성화 투자펀드는 지방자치단체가 정부와 민간 재원을 연결하여 대규모 사업을 추진할 수 있도록 지원하는 재원으로, 예비 타당성 조사와 재정투자 심사가 면제되거나 간소화된다. 

이번 1단계 사업은 총사업비 1300억 원을 투입하여 15만 2천㎡ 규모의 스마트팜 단지를 조성하는 프로젝트로, 스마트팜 법인인 우듬지팜이 시행사로 참여하여 내년 1월 첫 삽을 뜰 예정이다.

이번 착공으로 스마트팜 6개 동과 관리동 1개 동이 조성될 예정이며, 2025년 하반기에 준공 후 방울토마토와 완숙 토마토 재배로 본격 운영될 계획이다.

이완섭 서산시장은 “서산시가 전국 최대의 스마트팜 도시로 도약하는 기반을 마련했다”며, “앞으로도 스마트팜을 비롯한 스마트 농업의 발전을 위해 행정력을 집중하겠다”고 강조했다.

한편, 충남글로벌홀티콤플렉스는 청년 농업인들이 거주하며 농산물을 생산, 유통, 가공하고, 관광객들에게 먹거리와 볼거리를 제공할 수 있는 스마트팜 농산업 융복합단지로 조성될 예정이다. 

이로써 서산시는 스마트 농업의 중심지로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.
