홍성딸기가 '홍희' 품종의 홍콩 수출에 이어, 올해도 우수한 맛과 품질로 그 위상을 높여가고 있다.

홍성군은 홍성군딸기연구회(회장 한항우)와 함께 지난 12일 군 농업기술센터 대강당에서 이용록 군수를 비롯한 관내 딸기 농가 및 관계자 100여 명이 참석한 가운데 공동 출하식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.   

늦가을까지 이어진 폭염으로 딸기 출하가 미뤄지고 생산량이 감소된 상황에서도 홍성딸기는 타 시군에 비해 양호한 작황을 자랑하며 지난 11월 20일 금마면과 홍북읍을 필두로 서울 가락동 도매시장에서 첫 출하를 시작했다.

특히, 홍성딸기는 394명의 재배농가가 146ha 면적에서 연간 280억원 이상의 매출을 기록하며 도매시장에서 20% 이상 높은 가격으로 거래되고 있다. 

또한 홍성군이 육성한 '홍희와 골드베리' 등 신품종은 국내외 시장에서 주목받으며 대한민국 딸기 산업을 새롭게 선도하고 있다는 평가를 받고 있다. 

한항우 딸기연구회장은 “이상고온에도 불구하고 홍성군 딸기농가들이 어려운 시기를 잘 극복하여 안정적으로 출하하고 있다”며, “앞으로도 고품질의 맛있는 딸기 생산을 위해 회원 모두가 함께 노력해 나가겠다”고 전했다.

이용록 홍성군수는 “홍콩 수출에 이어 앞으로 더 많은 국가로 홍성딸기의 판로를 넓혀갈 계획”이라며 “앞으로도 농업인과 함께 지속적인 투자와 연구개발을 통해 홍성딸기의 글로벌 경쟁력을 높여 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 홍성군은 앞으로 무병 원묘 보급 확대, 육묘장 사업, 재배기술 고도화 등을 통해 농가 소득 향상과 지역 브랜드 가치 제고에 주력할 계획이다.
