이장우 대전시장은 9일 주간업무회의에서 ‘대전시 글로벌 혁신특구 후보지역 선정’과 관련해 “10년 안에 대전이 대한민국 바이오산업을 주도한다”는 목표를 실현할 중요한 계기가 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

이 시장은 “첨단 바이오 분야와 신약 개발에 있어 글로벌 혁신특구 후보지역 선정은 큰 도움이 될 것”이라며, “법률상 명시된 규제 외 대부분의 사항이 허용되며, 해외 진출 시 많은 혜택을 받을 수 있기 때문”이라고 강조했다.

중소벤처기업부는 지난 8일 대전, 대구, 경남을 글로벌 혁신특구 후보지역으로 선정했다고 발표했다.

이 시장은 “약 300개의 바이오 기업이 활동하고 있으며, 여러 분야의 특구와 첨단 바이오에서 큰 성과를 낼 수 있었던 것은 공직자들의 헌신과 노력 덕분”이라고 격려했다.

또한, 그는 국가적인 혼란 속에서 취약계층 복지사업과 겨울철 재난안전에 대한 대응 체계 마련을 지시했다. “가장 어려움을 겪는 분들은 취약계층과 소외된 이웃”이라며, “이들에 대한 생계 지원과 복지 사업이 차질 없이 이뤄지도록 각 부서가 책임감을 갖고 세심하게 챙기라”고 강조했다.
