당진소방서 의용소방대가 화재 취약시간대 신속한 현장 출동 및 골든타임 확보를 위해 12월부터 내년 2월까지 동계 대기근무와 순찰활동을 강화해 나가겠다고 밝혔다. 

겨울철 화재 예방 및 지역사회 재난 안전 대응을 목적으로 한 이번 조치에는 당진시 소속 의용소방대 26개대 약 715명의 대원이 참여한다.  

의용소방대는 매일 근무조를 편성하여 활동하며, 전담대는 오후 7시부터 11시까지, 지역대는 오후 1시부터 11시까지 청사에서 대기근무를 실시한다. 동시에 화재 취약지역을 중심으로 순찰활동을 병행해 화재 발생 시 현장 도착 시간을 단축하고 초기 대응력을 강화할 계획이다.

최장일 소방서장은 “겨울철은 화재 발생 위험이 높아지는 만큼, 의용소방대의 대기근무와 순찰활동이 중요하다”며 “지속적인 화재 예방 활동으로 사고를 미연에 방지하고 인명피해를 최소화하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 의용소방대는 민간 소방방재 조직으로 소방관서 업무 보조를 비롯해 각종 지역사회 봉사활동에 참여, 안전문화를 선도하고 있으며 화재의 경계와 진압, 구조·구급 업무 보조, 화재예방업무, 주민생활 안전 활동 지원 등을 담당하고 있는 지역 자원봉사단체이다.
