충남 당진시가 올해 11월까지 자동차세 등 체납 차량에 대한 집중 단속을 실시하여 체납액 4억 500만 원을 징수했다고 밝혔다.

당진시는 올해 3월부터 11월까지 주야간을 불문하고 자동차세 또는 차량 과태료를 체납한 차량을 단속해 총 858대의 번호판을 영치했다. 

이는 전년 대비 영치한 차량 대수가 51대 증가한 수치로, 체납 차량 대비 번호판 영치율은 충남도 내 1위를 기록했다. 

이러한 성과는 시가 징수과를 신설하고 체납처분을 한층 강화한 결과로 분석된다.

당진시는 자동차세를 1회 체납한 차량에 대해서는 번호판 영치 예고를 통해 자진 납부를 유도하고, 2회 이상 체납한 차량과 차량 관련 과태료를 체납한 차량에 대해서는 즉시 번호판 영치를 실시하고 있다.

또한, 16개 시·도 간 ‘지방자치단체 지방세 징수촉탁 협약’을 근거로 타 시도 차량 중 당진시에서 운행 중인 체납 차량에 대한 단속도 실시하여 319대의 번호판을 영치하고 1억 3300만 원을 징수했다. 

이를 통해 해당 자치단체로부터 징수액의 30%를 수수료로 받아 4천만 원의 추가적인 세외수입을 올리는 성과도 달성했다.
