2014년 '유기농업특구'로 최초 지정된 이후, 친환경 농업 분야에서 선도적 역할을 이어왔던 홍성군이 중소벤처기업부 지역특화발전특구위원회의 ‘홍성 저탄소·유기농업특구’심의에 통과하며 새로운 전기를 맞이했다.

지난 10년간 2번의 기간 연장과 함께 총 809억원을 투자해 고품질 유기농산물 생산기반을 조성하고 친환경농산물 유통을 활성화해 왔던 군은 올해 유기농업특구의 기간 만료를 맞아 계획 변경 승인으로 2027년까지 259억원을 투자해 그동안 추진해 온 특화사업을 연속성 있게 확대할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다고 6일 밝혔다.

주요 변경 내용은 ▲특구명칭 변경(홍성 저탄소·유기농업특구) ▲체험마을 편입(문당, 오누이, 거북이) ▲사업비 증가(1,068억원) ▲규제특례 추가(옥외광고물법, 국토계획법) ▲세부사업 추가(지속가능한 저탄소·친환경 농업환경보전, 사회적농업 지원)이다.

특히, 온실가스 배출 감소와 생태계 보전을 통해 기후위기를 예방하고 국민 건강을 증진하는 저탄소·유기농업의 중요성을 강화하여 지속가능한 농업을 추구할 예정이다.
