공주시가 민선8기 핵심 사업인 ‘웅진백제문화촌’ 조성 사업의 성공적인 추진을 위한 민간 투자 유치에 발 벗고 나섰다. 

28일 시에 따르면 총사업비 1,000억 원이 투입될 예정인 웅진백제문화촌 조성 사업은 웅진백제 왕실문화 스테이, 백제왕도 생활체험마을 등 체계적인 관광 서비스 기반 시설을 조성하는 것으로 2026년 착공을 목표로 하고 있다. 

특히, 지난 7월 충남도의 제2기 지역균형발전 사업 공모에 해당 사업이 선정되면서 400억원 규모의 선도 사업비를 확보하며 본격적으로 속도를 내게 됐다.

시는 지난 4월 착공한 백제문화스타케이션과 웅진백제문화촌 그리고 현재 구상 중인 웅진신화뮤지엄과 영상미디어관을 2030년까지 조성하여 공주문화관광지 일대를 역사·문화 관광 거점으로 발전시킬 계획이다.

무엇보다 시는 사업의 성공적 추진을 위해 민간 투자 유치가 필수적이라 보고, 투자 유치 관련 활동에 행정력을 집중하고 있다.

지난 25일과 26일에는 한미경제인협회(회장 강승구)를 초청하여 웅진백제문화촌의 발전과 관광 활성화를 위한 민간기업 투자 워크숍을 개최했다.

워크숍에는 한미경제인협회 김응기 사무총장을 비롯해 건축, 문화재, 관광, 호텔 경영, 문화 평론가 등 다양한 분야의 전문가 16명이 참석했다.

시는 웅진백제문화촌을 비롯한 단계별 공주문화관광지 조성 계획을 설명하고 다각적인 협력 방안을 논의했다. 

또한, 민간 투자가 절실한 숙박시설과 연회장 등의 사업에 대한 투자를 제안하고, 규제 특례 지원 등 투자 기업에 제공할 혜택도 안내했다.

각 분야 전문가들로부터 다양한 아이디어도 전해 들은 시는 앞으로도 공주문화관광지 조성 계획 전반에 대해 한미경제인협회와 지속적으로 협의해 나가기로 했다. 

최원철 시장은 “웅진백제문화촌을 중심으로 공주문화관광지 조성사업을 성공적으로 추진해 백제 문화와 관광의 거점으로 삼겠다”며, “세계유산으로 가치를 인정받은 백제의 유산을 관광 자원화하는 노력을 지속적으로 펼쳐나가겠다”고 말했다.
