충남 서산시가 가로림만 점박이물범을 모티브로 한 관광 캐릭터 ‘가티와 오슈’의 저작권 등록을 완료했다고 21일 밝혔다.

귀엽고 친근한 이미지로 관광객과의 활발한 소통을 위해 개발된 가티, 오슈의 이름은 ‘같이 오세요’라는 의미의 충청도 방언에서 비롯됐다.

이번 저작권 등록을 통해 가티와 오슈는 법적으로 보호받게 되며, 다양한 관광 콘텐츠와 축제, 행사에서 활용될 예정이다.

앞서 서산시는 가티와 오슈를 지난 10월 열린 서산 해미읍성 축제를 시작으로 충남 방문의 해 선포식과 EBS 1TV 딩동댕 유치원 '가티랑 오슈랑 서산에서 놀자' 편 등으로 서산을 알리는 데 활용했다.

또한, 다양한 관광기념품으로 제작돼 판매될 예정이며, 시는 해당 캐릭터가 다양하게 활용돼 관내 관광 산업 활성화에 기여할 것으로 전망했다.

한편, 푸른 빛의 가티는 수줍음이 많은 내향형 수컷, 복숭앗빛의 오슈는 발랄한 외향형 암컷 점박이물범이다.
