충남 아산시가 제2중앙경찰학교 유치에 도전, 1차 관문인 3배수에 포함된 가운데 박경귀 아산시장이 23일 기자회견을 열고, 경찰청 산하 신임 경찰 교육기관인 제2중앙경찰학교 유치전 3배수에 선정된 것은 “위대한 39만 아산시민의 열정과 응원 덕분”이라고 말했다. 

신임 경찰 교육기관인 제2중앙경찰학교는 연간 약 5000명의 신임 경찰이 입교해 1년 가까이 머물며 교육받게 된다. 지역에 발생하는 유·무형의 경제적 파급효과도 상당할 것으로 전망돼 전국 47개 지자체가 유치 도전장을 던졌다. 

아산시는 이번 유치전에서 경찰인재개발원, 경찰대학, 수사연수원, 경찰병원(예정)이 위치한 경찰종합타운 일원을 후보지로 공모에 참여해 충남 예산군, 전북 남원시와 함께 1차 관문을 통과했다.

아산시는 고속도로·고속철도(KTX·SRT)·수도권 지하철, 현재 노선 연장을 검토 중인 GTX-C 등 뛰어난 광역교통망과 경찰종합타운이 조성된 ‘대한민국 경찰의 메카’라는 점을 강점으로 내세우고 있다.
