26일 취임 2주년을 맞아 언론간담회를 개최한 백성현 논산시장의 야외 간담회 장소에 대해 탁월한 선택이었다는 평가를 받고 있다.

백성현 논산시장의 논산시은 26일 오전 탑정호 수문공원에서‘민선8기 2주년 언론인과의 간담회’(이하 간담회)를 개최했다.

이번 간담회는 민선 8기 출범 2주년 동안 빛났던 성과를 돌아보고 논산의 미래 100년을 위해 펼쳐지는 향후 비전에 대해 언론인과 소통하는 시간을 가졌다. 

간담회가 펼쳐진 탑정호 수문공원은 새해 첫날 시민들이 한데 모여 미래와 대한 희망과 다짐을 되새기는 장소로, 이번 간담회 역시 각오를 다져 새로운 논산을 위해 총력을 다하겠는 의미로 정해졌다.

날씨까지 도와준 이날 간담회에는 간담회 참석을 신청한 언론인 60명을 포함해 많은 언론인들이 참석해 백 시장의 취임 2주년을 평가하고 남은 2년에 대한 백 시장의 고뇌를 듣는 자리가 됐다. 

먼저 백 시장은“변화와 혁신의 자세로 논산의 번영을 가져오겠단 당찬 포부를 밝힌 지도 어느덧 2년이 되어간다”며, “시민행복시대를 넘어 시민감동시대를 열기 위해 항상 시민의 목소리에 귀기울이고 있다”고 말했다. 

그러면서 “논산과 논산시민만을 생각한 행정을 펼쳤을 뿐인데, 전국이 주목하고 세계가 놀라는 논산이 되었다”고 말하며, “이 모든 것은 언론인들을 비롯한 논산시민 여러분과 공직자 여러분 덕택”이라며, 감사의 마음을 전했다.

이어진 발언에서 백 시장은 지난 2년간 행보와 관련, 국방과학연구소 산하 국방미래기술연구센터 유치와 ㈜코리아디펜스인더스트리 투자 유치, 논산 국방국가산업단지 최종승인 등을 위시한 명실상부 대한민국 대표 국방군수산업도시로 발돋움 한 논산의 변화를 알렸다.
