대전시의회가 16일 송촌중 학생들을 초청하는 것을 시작으로 2024년 상반기 청소년 의회교실을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이날 송촌중학교 학생들은 일일 시의원이 되어 안건 상정 및 자유발언 등을 직접 체험해 보는 시간을 가졌다. 

특히 동물실험 폐지에 대한 청원을 직접 제안하고, 이에 관한 토론과 투표를 진행하였으며, 동물실험의 윤리적 문제와 대안적 실험 방법에 대해 논의하며, 청소년의 시각에서 해결책을 제시해 봤다. 또한, 자유발언을 통해 본인의 의견을 적극적으로 표현하는 등 행사에 진지하게 참여했다.

이날 프로그램을 참관한 이용기 의원(대덕구3, 국민의힘)은 “미래의 주인공인 청소년 여러분과 소중한 시간을 함께할 수 있어 매우 뜻깊었다”며, “앞으로도 이러한 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대해 더 많은 청소년이 사회적 이슈에 대해 생각하고 표현할 수 있는 환경을 제공함과 동시에 다양한 아이디어를 존중하는 시의원이 되도록 노력하겠다”고 행사에 참여한 학생들을 격려했다.

이날 학생들은 “시의회 의사일정의 모든 과정을 체험해 보고, 지방자치의 역사에 대해 알아본 유익한 시간이었다”며, “지방의회의 역할과 중요 의사결정 처리 과정들을 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 소중한 기회였다”고 소감을 말했다.

한편, 2024년 상반기 대전시의회 청소년 의회교실은 송촌중학교를 시작으로 6월 30일까지 총 6회에 걸쳐 운영될 예정이다.
