충남 논산시가 다양한 근대문화유산을 바탕으로 강경근대역사문화거리를 일제 강점기 근현대 문화 복원, 건물 정비 및 골목 정비 사업 등을 이어가며 과거의 화려했던 모습을 재현하고 있다고 23일 밝혔다. 

논산시 강경읍은 조선시대부터 일제강점기까지 금강 수운을 통해 번성한 상업도시로, 개성, 대구와 함께 국내 3대 시장 중 하나였으나, 해방 이후 철도와 고속도로의 개통으로 인해 인구가 줄고 상권이 쇠퇴하면서 옛날의 영광을 잃었다. 

이에 논산시는 강경의 근대역사문화를 재현하고 활성화하기 위해 다양한 관광개발 사업을 추진하고 있다.

논산시는 이와 연계하여 당시의 분위기를 연출한 강경구락부라는 호텔과 카페 또한 운영되고 있다. 한편으로는 논산의 청년창업 플랫폼으로 모집된 청년 창업가들이 각종 음식점과 커피전문점을 활발하게 운영 중으로 청년과 함께 도전하고 성장하는 발판을 만들었다.

특히, 논산근대역사문화촌과 실감형 테마거리를 조성을 통해 강경의 찬란했던 근대역사문화를 기억하고, 미래로 연결되는 소통의 공간, 과거와 미래, 아날로그와 디지털을 연결한 관광상품 개발을 하고 있다. 

이로써 논산시는 주간뿐만 아니라 야간에도 즐길 수 있는 실감형 체험 콘텐츠를 제공하여 방문객이 체류할 수 있는 야간 특화 관광지를 목표하고 있다.
