농어촌 인구 감소와 고령화로 인한 노동력 저하로 생산성이 떨어지면서 대외 경쟁력이 악회되고 있는 가운데, 충남 당진시가 농번기 외국인 계절근로자 도입을 매년 확대하고 있어 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

계절근로자는 2022년 126명에서 2023년 707명으로 늘어났다.
