대전시가 KAIST 컨소시엄과 ‘미래 모빌리티를 선도하는 개방형 통합 플랫폼 연구개발 및 적용을 위한 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 4일 밝혔다.

대전시와 KAIST는 미래 모빌리티 분야 협력을 강화하고, 개방형 통합 플랫폼 연구개발에 나설 것을 이번 협약에서 합의했다.

특히, 대전시는 대덕특구 주요 도로에 딥-모빌리티 실증 연구를 위한 리빙랩을 조성하기로 했다. 이에 따라 대덕특구 주요 도로에 자율주행 시범운영지구 지정을 추진하고, 주요시설 장비 설치와 사용 허가 등 자율주행 실증 환경을 조성·지원할 계획이다.

협약식과 함께 출범하는 'KAIST 딥모빌리티 컨소시엄'은 현대차, 현대NGV, 한국엔컴퍼니, HL클레무브, 파트론, 모라이, 펜타시스템즈, 엠큐닉, 한국전자통신연구원 등 10여 개의 산·학·연으로 구성됐으며, 지역업체로는 5G 네트워크 솔루션 전문기업인 트렌토시스템즈가 참여 의사를 밝혔다.

이로써 KAIST는 국내 최초로 미래모빌리티 분야 ‘학계 중심 다기관(산·학·연·관) 협력체계’를 구축하여 급변하는 글로벌 모빌리티 시장에 효과적으로 대응하고 선도할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다.

협약식에 참석한 이장우 대전시장은 “이번 협약은 미래 지능형 교통시스템과 자율주행 기술 발전에 적극적으로 참여하겠다는 산·학·연·관 간의 강력한 의지와 협력을 상징한다”라며 “대전시는 보다 안전하고 효율적으로 자율주행 기술을 연구·개발할 수 있도록 실증환경 조성에 최선의 노력을 다하겠다”라고 전했다. 

한편, 4일 한국과학기술원(KAIST)에서 개최된 협약식에는 이장우 대전시장과 이광형 KAIST 총장을 비롯해 현대자동차·한국&컴퍼니 등 KAIST 딥모빌리티 컨소시엄에 참여하는 10여 개 기관과 기업의 대표가 참석했다.
