세종시가 지역상권에 활력을 더하기 위해 9월 한 달 지역화폐 여민전의 1인당 구매 한도를 1인당 100만 원까지 상향한다고 30일 밝혔다.

세종시의 이번 조치는 경기침체 극복과 추석명절 소비 진작을 지원하기 위한 조치로 9월 이후 10월부터는 50만 원까지로 상향한다.

구매한도가 상향된 만큼 소비자가 받을 수 있는 캐시백 혜택도 월 최대 2만 8000원에서 3만 5000원으로 늘어나며, 9월의 경우 최대 7만 원까지로 확대된다.

지난 2020년 3월부터 발행한 여민전은 지난 7월까지 3년간 총 9960억 원을 발행했으며 지역 내 소비 진작을 통한 경제 활성화에 기여했다는 평가를 받고 있다.

최민호 시장은 “이번 여민전 구매 한도 확대로 침체된 골목상권 활성화에 도움이 되길 기대한다”라며 “앞으로도 여민전 내실 운영 및 지속 확대로 지역 경제 활성화를 위해 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
