정례회 기간 회의에 불참까지 하면서 카타르 월드컵 경기를 관람하고와 지탄을 받았던 대전서구의회 최규 의원이 당으로부터 제명됐다.

더불어민주당 대전시당 윤리심판원은 19일 늦은 오후 회의를 개최하고, 회기중 카타르월드컵 경기를 관람한 최규 서구의원을 제명키로 의결했다.

최규 의원을 제명 의결한 윤리심판원은 최 의원의 제명 사유로 "회기중 성실하게 의정활동에 임해야 함에도 외유성 해외출국으로 의원으로서 직분을 성실히 수행하지 못하는 등  선출직공직자의 신분을 망각해  시민들의 분노를 샀다는 점을 들어 일벌백계 차원에서 제명을 의결했다"고 밝혔다.

한편 이날 회의에서 윤리심판원 위원들 중에는 당 징계 중 최고수위 징계인 제명보다 당원자격정지 등의 징계 의견도 있었지만, 다수인 외부위원의 강력한 요청에 따라  엄중하게 제명이라는 초강수 징계를 결정했다. 

대전시당으로 부터 제명을 당한 최규 의원은 중앙당에 재심신청을 할 수 있는 기회가 남아있어 당원 자격을 유지하게 될 수 있는 길은 열려있으나 전국적인 유명세를 탄 만큼 만만치 않을 것이라는 전망이다.
