10월 7일 과학기술정보통신부(이하 ‘과기정통부’)에서 개최한 제43회 우주개발진흥실무위원회에서 당초 발표한 발사체 특화지구와 위성 특화지구 지정계획에 더해 연구·인재개발분야 특화지구를 추가로 지정하는 내용의 ‘우주산업 협력지구(클러스터) 계획 수정(안)’이 원안의결 되면서 대전시의 ‘우주산업 클러스터 3각 체제’가 가시화 될 전망이다.

과기정통부의 ‘우주산업 협력지구(클러스터) 계획 수정(안)’ 의결로 우주 관련 연구 및 인재개발 인프라를 보유하고 있는 대전의 연구·인재개발분야 특화지구 지정이 유력해졌다고 대전시가 밝혔다.

수정안이 통과되면서 대전시는 정부의 민간주도 우주산업 육성을 위해 추진 중인 우주산업 클러스터 3각 체제의 중심이 되는 첫 번째 단계를 통과했다.

대전시는 과학기술정보통신부와 면밀히 협력하여 연구·인재개발분야 특화지구 조성을 위한 세부 계획을 마련하는 등 최종 국가우주위원회 심의를 통한 우주산업 클러스터 확정까지 만전을 기한다는 계획이다.

과기정통부는 우주산업 클러스터 3각 체제를 공식화하여 우주산업이 지속적으로 성장할 수 있는 선순환 구조를 마련한다는 계획으로 특화지구 간 유기적 상호 연계와 협업을 강화하여 동반상승효과를 창출할 수 있을 것으로 보고 있다.
